Feeling Flat After A Slow Patch? Here’s How to Regain Your Momentum

by | 14 May 2025 | Business Tips

Let’s be real – last month was far from “business as usual” was it?

If your calendar was quiet and your revenue dipped, you’re not alone – and you’re definitely not failing.

Here’s the thing: A slow month doesn’t mean a slow year. And it absolutely doesn’t mean you’re stuck.

I want to share five practical actions you can take right now to shake off the April slump and get your momentum back—without panicking, burning your business to the ground, or spinning your wheels in busywork.

1. Reconnect with Your Vision

When things get quiet, it’s easy to drift. You start chasing shiny objects, pivoting unnecessarily, or throwing spaghetti at the wall in hopes something sticks.

Before you spiral, take five quiet minutes and pull out the goals and vision you set for the year. What kind of business – and life – are you building?

Ask yourself:

  • Are the things on my to-do list actually aligned with this vision?
  • Am I acting with intention or just trying to keep busy?

If the answer’s “no,” it’s time for a reset. Use your vision as your compass—it will pull you out of the fog.

2. Sweep a Broom Through Your Business

When things feel hard, the temptation to blow it all up can be strong. But instead of lighting a match, grab a broom.

Slow periods are the perfect time to clear out what’s no longer working. Look for the friction points:

  • What feels clunky or overcomplicated?
  • What’s draining your energy unnecessarily?
  • What could be simpler for your clients—or for you?

Whether it’s an outdated offer, a messy system, or marketing that’s not landing, tidy it up. Streamline, simplify, and make space for what really matters. You’ll be amazed what opportunities open up when the clutter clears.

3. Make It Easy for People to Help You

If you want more clients, referrals or visibility right now, you’ve got to do the hard work for people. Don’t assume they know what you need.

Here’s how to make it ridiculously easy:

  • Be specific when you ask for referrals or support
  • Regularly remind your network what you do and who you help
  • Share how people can work with you, clearly and confidently

As Tom Cruise famously shouted in Jerry Maguire: “Help me, help you!”

People want to support you, but you have to make it simple enough that they can’t not.

4. Stop Looking Sideways

Comparison is a killer of confidence, clarity, and momentum. It’s too easy to look at someone else’s highlight reel and think you’re behind.

But behind every polished post is a Hot Mess wondering if she’s got it right (trust me – I see the behind-the-scenes mess all the time.)

So here’s your permission slip:
Put your blinkers on.
Focus on your lane, your goals, and your version of success.

The most powerful thing you can do right now is stop looking at what everyone else is doing and get back to what you know works for you.

5. Never Worry Alone

Running a business can be isolating and when things aren’t going to plan, it’s easy to spiral into worst-case thinking.

One of the key themes in my Accountability Circles recently? The collective sigh of relief women experience when they realise they’re not the only ones struggling.

There’s so much power in simply being able to say, “This is hard,” to someone who understands.

So reach out. Send the voice note. Book the coffee date. Have the conversation. Speak the truth.

And if someone reaches out to you? Take the invite. You’ll feel better for helping someone else too.

If you’re still feeling a little wobbly, know this: this will pass.

In a year’s time, this will feel so insignificant. You’ve done hard things before, you’ll get through this, too.

Take the pressure off and focus on the next right step.
