April is a tricky month, isn’t it?
Public holidays. School holidays. Short weeks. People dipping in and out of their businesses. And maybe you’re even carving out a proper break somewhere (I really hope you are).
It’s a bit like January… just without the extreme heat and that fresh, new year energy.
Every year, April seems to vanish in a puff of smoke. Then suddenly it’s May, and you’re scrambling to catch up before the end of financial year in June.
So here’s something to keep front of mind:
Whatever action you take (or don’t take) now will directly impact how you finish the financial year.
This isn’t about doing more. It’s about being more intentional.
Instead of stressing about the stop-start nature of this month, there’s an opportunity to be strategic with it -and even enjoy it.
Here’s what I’m focusing on to keep momentum without punishing myself.
1. Lower the bar (strategically)
Not everything can run at full capacity this month – and trying to force it usually backfires.
So instead, I’m being realistic about where my time and energy actually matter most.
Right now, that looks like:
- Delivering for existing clients and Accountability Circle members
- Taking small, consistent actions tied to my quarterly goals
- Keeping my pipeline warm (because going quiet now always shows up later)
This isn’t the month for big overhauls.
It’s the month for keeping things ticking along.
2. Plan around the chaos, not against it
One of the biggest mistakes I see is treating April like a “normal” month.
It’s not.
Instead of pushing through, I’ve mapped out the actual time I have available and planned my workload around that.
It’s simple, but it makes a huge difference.
3. Protect your non-negotiables
When routines get disrupted, it’s very easy for everything to fall apart.
So rather than trying to do everything, I focus on protecting a few key anchors that keep things steady:
- My Accountability Circle meetings
- My weekly wrap-up and finance time
- Consistent communication (including showing up here)
- A bit of “Friday fun time” to keep things balanced
These are the things that keep the wheels turning, even in a slightly chaotic month.
4. Keep your pipeline warm
Even if things feel quieter, this is not the time to disappear.
What you do in April will show up in May and June.
For me, that simply means:
- Staying visible
- Continuing conversations
- Following up where needed
You don’t need to go all in, but you do need to stay in the game.
5. Make space for the white space
This one matters more than most people think.
Downtime is often when the best ideas come – but only if you allow it.
Instead of filling every gap, I’ve been leaning into the slower pace:
- Reading in the middle of the day
- Cooking
- Going for long walks
- Not rushing back for the next thing
The key is enjoying it without the pressure to make it “productive”.
April doesn’t have to be a write-off
You can enjoy the lighter pace and keep your business moving.
With a bit of intention, April can actually set you up for a strong, calm finish to the financial year instead of a last-minute scramble.
Struggling to stay on track?
